Grades 1 and 2

We have a new teacher this year for our First and Second Grades!  We are excited to introduce to you Miss Amanda Miller.

Here is her letter of introduction:

Hello, I am Amanda Miller and I am excited to join the Life Academy staff. Ms. Amanda Miller

I am a certified Elementary Teacher with endorsements in English as a Second Language and Mathematics from Arizona State University and I plan on continuing my education by pursuing my Masters in the coming years.

I have recently relocated to the Valley from Phoenix, Arizona, where I was born and raised.

Teaching has always been my greatest passion and it is my desire to be a positive role model in many children’s lives. I am strong in my faith and hope to help my students develop their walk with the Lord.

I have so many exciting ideas for the year. I look forward to meeting you and your child.First and Second Grades

The First and Second grade classroom will be a safe learning environment built on a strong sense of community. Students will work together and learn from each other. I will facilitate each student’s individual needs and learning styles. I look forward to watching each student’s individual growth.

My instruction is based on the ABEKA curriculum. We begin each day with prayer and Bible lessons tailored to teaching students how to follow God’s word. We also praise the Lord by memorizing scripture and songs.

We will be learning about Phonics and Spelling using letters and the sounds they make by putting them together to make words. I love children’s literature and am excited to see my students flourish into confident readers.

I expect families to help by reading to and WITH their child each day and recording that time into their daily reading log.

Math is also a very important part of our day. In the first grade, we will be learning about numbers, addition, subtraction, graphing, patterns, time, money, measurement, and fractions.

The second grade continues with exploring multiplication, division, Roman numerals, fractions, and scale measurements while continuing to reinforce previously learned material.

The first and second grade also opens up a whole new realm of writing as the students are introduced to creative writing. The students learn they can write their own stories using their own thoughts and imaginations.

We will also explore God’s World and his creations in science and what a blessed country we live in as we study about Our America and Our World.

The study of Health and Safety will teach the students to continue to grow healthy while being safe in everyday activities.

I look forward to working with you and your student. Together we can help them reach their full potential and share the joy of watching them grow and learn.
